Garlicky Deliciousness

 Blog 007

Anyone who has ever eaten over at our place knows we like garlic.

Let me rephrase that.

We love garlic.

My mother did it to me.  Growing up I recall her eating so many cloves at one time that dad refused to sleep in the same bed as her.

See.  We like garlic.  It’s genetic.

And it just so happens tahini {ground sesame seeds} were marked down at Meijer this week.

So what’s a garlic-loving girl to do?

Make hummus, of course

Here’s what we throw in the food processer…

{We never measure.  Sorry.  Play with it…add more liquid as needed}

  • 2 cans of Garbanzo beans, drained
  • 6-8 oz. of Tahini {approx. 1/2 a 16 oz. jar}
  • 4-6 large Garlic cloves {or as many as I feel like peeling}
  • Loads of Lemon juice.  5 long squirts?  {maybe 1/2 cup?}
  • Plenty of Olive Oil {most likely 1/3 cup}
  • Lots of Cumin {we grind our own…about 2 teaspoons?}
  • Fresh Parsley {a couple of sprigs}
  • Salt {to taste}

Blend away!

Then…without even meaning to…we got even more extravagant.

Pulling out some old flour tortillas from the fridge {we buy 20 for a few bucks @ SAMS…so good!}, we sliced those babies up with a pizza slicer, sprayed them lightly with cooking oil, sprinkled them with seasoning salt and popped them in the oven for a few minutes on 300*.

Holy mother of pearl.

Flaky, crunchy goodness dipped in rich, garlicky deliciousness.

Let’s just say they were gone before they had a chance to cool down.

Our entire family was full off our impromptu appetizer…

and dinner got put back in the fridge.

Homemade hummus and chips…yummo!

  1. I just tried horseradish hummus last night. Pow! But the flavor ends with the sweetness of the beans. Very cool and interesting. Also, we make our own pita chips - similar to your tortillas. YUM!
